IPHONATICS --- THIS IS FOR US!
There's a really good blog called iPhone Matters. And the latest is about five free applications to get you started
One that intrigued me, and which I heard about but didn't know for sure if it's true, is Shazam - hear a song you'd like to know more about. Turn on Shazam for a few seconds via the microphone on your iPhone and Shazam will tell you what song you're hearing.
And how about Light --- Turns iPhone screen to a flashlight. Can come in handy at night when trying to put your key into the lock and you can't see it.
And a must have: Google Mobile. Tell your iPhone what you're looking for. Seconds later you'll have amazingly accurate results.
I also heard about a Breathalyzer application --- but I think I'll skip that one.
Here are the various categories ot topics --- really helpful, fascinating, mind-boggling!

It'S JOY TO THE WORLD OF IPHONATICS!

I just stopped by this wonderful day (60 degrees in Charlottesville and sunny!) to wish you a
Merry Christmas!
your friend for Charlottesville Real Estate!
Charles, Merry Christmas to you, too.
According to my iPhone Weather Channel screen, it's 51 degrees, partly cloudy and windy in Alameda --- although I'm looking out the window, and it's brught, sunny, and not a cloud in the sky (as of this post).
I just got my iPhone last week. The flashlight application would have come in handy the night the power was off!
Lorrie --- I downloaded the Light application, too, just in case.
Happy New Year!
I went and bought a Treo 700w on ebay for $125.99...it was a STEAL of a deal!!
Our local MLS has software that lets you unloack lockboxes with the IR port... but ONLY TREOS can use the software.....
I NOW wish I had bought a blackberry....if treo does not get with it, they will be belly up soon as a company...
Pacita,
Thanks for the additional information on updates. I have installed the flashlight one and google one...can't wait to try.
Speaking of iphone pictures...if you get a chance go to my blog and see the pictures of my little pooch Christmas present. The one in the stocking is on a camera but the one in the carrier/purse is with my iphone.
Lori Cofer, Beasley
Alexander ---- you're so right. Palm is the pioneer, but others have been so innovative that Palm is being left behind.
Lori --- will do.
I'm personally not a very big fan of the I-Phone or other touch screen phones as they are hard to operate while driving or in different situations. My blackberry is the phone for me. I have had touch screens before and have had lots of problems with them (although they were not I-Phones). However, for someone who has an I-Phone you certainly have a great post for them to use as a reference.
Michael --- I went from the Palm/TREOs, to Blackberry to iPhone. I am fascinated by the number of applications on the iPHone which revolutionized this concept. Since driving and texting is illegal in CA, all I can and should do while driving is to answer calls (using my blue tooth). Thanks!
I got an iPhone about 3 weeks ago, and I LOVE IT! Thanks for the resources here.
Jason --- now that iPhone is going to be available via Walmart starting tomorrow, there should be heightened interest in this phone. My question is....is iPhone connectivity (at least in the U.S) only via AT&T?
Pacita.. unfortunately, iphone is still wed only to AT&T... the minute they open it up... all the other phones better watch out. Clearly, Apple has learned nothing... they kept their architecture secret to the Mac, and own less than 7% of the marketplace because of it.... and now they insist on staying with only one carrier... which limits their market coverage.
- heavy sigh -
Alan -- I remember reading on very specific reasons why iPhone chose only AT&T. And you're right --Apple kept their programs close to the vest. But you have to admit, they have continued to excite even non-MAC folks with their products. So if/when they open up to other service providers, it's going to be a bloodbath .... unless the other manufacturers come up with their iPhone killer. Blackbery's Storm was supposed to be it, but alas, alack, that storm has been downgraded into a drizzle.
I got my iPhone a few weeks ago I've downloaded all of these apps beside the light one. I wish I could find one with full motion weather radar.
Christopher, when you find other applications that you think the rest of us iPhonatics will enjoy, please post them.
Have fun with your new toy, er, phone!
Thanks for the heads up on the iPhone blog. I love finding new resources for iPhone info!
Ryan --- you're welcome. There are quite a few, but I like this one very much. They provide links to past blogs, and they're categorized, which makes it even easier to navigate.
